Alpha-9 Oncology is seeking a highly motivated Assistant Controller/Controller with a strong background in accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal control to join our dynamic and growing Finance team. In this high-impact role, you will partner closely with individuals on the Finance team as well as cross-functional colleagues in R&D, HR and Legal among others to ensure accurate accounting and reporting of transactions, develop scalable accounting policies and processes, and ensure internal control compliance to prepare for future SOX readiness.

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the financial infrastructure of a fast-paced, mission-driven biotechnology company developing transformative radiopharmaceutical therapies. As we grow and mature as a company, you will be an instrumental part of the Finance team and partner directly with leadership to support strategic decision-making.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will help build a best-in-class accounting function, contribute to strategic initiatives, and gain exposure to all facets of accounting in a clinical-stage biotechnology company. This role is based in our Boston office.

How You’ll Contribute

  • Perform and oversee monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes to ensure timely, accurate financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Prepare internal financial statements and management reports, including support for Board and Audit Committee materials.
  • Support the development and implementation of internal controls and maintain evidence of the performance of internal controls to ensure compliance and audit readiness.
  • Develop scalable accounting policies, processes and systems to support potential future public company reporting, including SOX preparedness.
  • Manage key areas of accounting operations, including maintenance of the general ledger, accounts payable, accrued/prepaid expenses, fixed assets and payroll support.
  • Support the preparation and/or review intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and eliminations to ensure accurate consolidated financial reporting.
  • Support annual audit activities, tax provision and tax return preparation, including coordination with external auditors and other third-parties.
  • Support the FP&A team in budgeting, forecasting, and cash management processes.
  • Identify and drive continuous process improvements and system enhancements within the accounting function.

The Skills You Bring

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation required.
  • 6–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including with biotechnology or life sciences companies.
  • Big Four or national public accounting firm experience is preferred but not required.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP; including with its application to accounting for research and development activities. Foreign currency accounting experience a plus.
  • Prior background supporting audits, financial reporting, and the performance of internal controls in a public company environment or similar.
  • Experience with NetSuite is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to operate with a high degree of accuracy, discretion, and professionalism in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a desire to roll up your sleeves and build in a hands-on setting.

Associate Director, Intellectual Property

Your Impact

Alpha-9 Oncology is seeking a highly motivated Associate Director of Intellectual Property (Patent Agent) to join our intellectual property team and support our growing global patent portfolio and overall IP development. The ideal candidate will support the drafting, prosecution, and management of our patent portfolio, with a focus on peptides, small molecules, and related biotechnologies. This role requires a deep understanding of patent law, exceptional technical expertise, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and protect key innovations. This position reports to the Senior Director, Head of Intellectual Property, and is based in our Boston office.

How You’ll Contribute

  • Manage the development, maintenance, and optimization of the company’s global patent portfolio, ensuring comprehensive protection of innovations in peptides, small molecules, radiopharmaceuticals, and related biotechnologies.
  • Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications while responding to USPTO and foreign office actions, engaging with examiners, and crafting persuasive arguments to advance prosecution.
  • Conduct prior art searches and analyze scientific literature to assess patentability, freedom-to-operate, and competitive positioning.
  • Collaborate closely with R&D, business development, clinical, and legal teams to identify and evaluate new inventions, aligning IP strategy with corporate objectives and emerging technologies.
  • Provide strategic guidance on intellectual property matters to support business growth, licensing, partnerships, and potential litigation.
  • Stay informed on changes in patent law, industry trends, and competitive landscapes, adapting strategies to maintain a strong and forward-looking IP position.
  • Support due diligence for internal and external collaborations, mergers, and acquisitions by evaluating third-party IP and conducting risk assessments.
  • Manage relationships with external counsel to ensure the effective preparation and prosecution of international patent applications.
  • Communicate IP strategies and updates effectively to key stakeholders through clear presentations and discussions, fostering a culture of innovation and strategic intellectual property management.

 

The Skills You Bring

  • M.Sc. degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related field (Ph.D. preferred but not required).
  • Registered to practice before the USPTO (required).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in patent drafting and prosecution, relating to the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries (law firm experience is a plus).
  • Strong understanding of U.S. and international patent laws and procedures.
  • Proven ability to manage complex patent portfolios and work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific and legal concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results and meet timelines under pressure.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail.

Manager/Senior Manager, Quality Assurance

Your Impact

Alpha-9 Oncology is seeking a highly motivated Manager/Senior Manager, Quality Assurance with a strong GMP background to join our growing team. As a clinical-stage biotech focused on radiopharmaceutical innovation, we are looking for a hands-on quality professional who thrives in a small, dynamic environment and can support batch release for early-stage clinical programs.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Quality Assurance, you will play a key role in maintaining our GMP quality processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and supporting clinical-stage manufacturing activities. This role will require strong collaboration with CDMOs and external partners to ensure quality standards are upheld. This role provides visibility and opportunities to professionally grow in the GxP QA area in addition to the primary responsibilities.

How You’ll Contribute

  • Serve as the QA subject matter expert for all CMC-related quality activities and collaborate with the CMC team on investigational product manufacturing/packaging and release, stability program, change management, vendor selection and GMP related audits.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with CMC, clinical supply,  external manufacturing partners, analytical, and regulatory teams to ensure appropriate QA oversight for contract manufacturing, packaging/labeling and testing.
  • Support internal and external audits, including vendor qualification and regulatory inspections.
  • Support establishing and maintaining a ‘fit for purpose’ QA approach to GMP documentation such as SOPs, quality documentation, and GMP records.
  • Assist in training programs to foster a quality-driven culture across the organization.
  • Work closely with CDMOs and external partners to review documents and quality events to support clinical product manufacturing and testing.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency and compliance within the QA function.
  • Support CMC with metrics and trend review for ongoing just-in-time manufacturing activities.
  • Support the development and maintenance of the quality management system including but not limited to document management system, training, SOP development , Deviation and CAPA management.

 

The Skills You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Chemistry, Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a GMP Quality Assurance role within biotech or pharmaceutical manufacturing (early-stage clinical experience preferred).
  • Prior experience with radiopharmaceutical or other just-in-time manufacturing platforms is a plus.
  • Strategic and creative thinker, independent strong leader, and subject matter expert in cGMPS and a passion for driving a quality mindset across the organization.
  • Strong understanding of GMP regulations (FDA, EMA, ICH) and clinical-stage quality processes.
  • Experience with batch record review, release, and deviation investigations.
  • Experience working with CDMOs and external manufacturing partners.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communicator with a collaborative mindset and ability to work cross-functionally.
