Reporting to the Associate Director, Radiochemistry, you will play a key role in shaping the radiochemistry program by supporting in vitro/in vivo studies and formulation evaluations, enabling you to see the direct results of your contributions and grow alongside a passionate team. This role is based in our Vancouver office.


How You’ll Contribute

  • Apply radiolabeling methods to enable preclinical evaluation of compounds with imaging and therapeutic applications
  • Assist in the design and execution of radiochemistry experiments leading to robust radiolabeling processes
  • Assist in the development of analytical methods
  • Actively participate in discussions and presentation of results in team meetings
  • Execute diligent, clear and accurate recording of experiment procedures/outcomes
  • Support of lab maintenance and upkeep (e.g., routine instrument care, inventory management)
  • Firmly adhere to all safety and compliance requirements, including radiation surveys, contamination control, and radioactive inventory/waste management.

The Skills You Bring

  • M.Sc. degree in Radiochemistry, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or related area with 1+ year of related industrial experience.
  • Solid understanding and practical experience in radiolabeling and subsequent analysis
  • Excellent observational, organizational, data management, and documentation skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • A team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for the discovery of targeted imaging/therapy in a fast-paced start-up environment.

Alpha-9 Oncology is seeking a highly motivated Senior/Principal Scientist, CMC Radiochemistry with a strong background in radiolabeling processes and analytical testing methods for peptide/small molecule-based radiopharmaceuticals to join our innovative CMC Radiochemistry group. In this role, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D, regulatory, and external CDMO partners, to drive the development and delivery of novel radiolabeled diagnostic compounds for both pre-clinical and clinical applications. Reporting to the Director of Diagnostic Radiopharmaceutical Development, you will play a key role in shaping our radiopharmaceutical development program, enabling you to see the direct results of your contributions and grow alongside a passionate team. This role is based in our Vancouver office with flexibility for hybrid work.

How You’ll Contribute

  • Lead radiochemistry experiments to develop robust radiolabeling processes and clinical formulations that meet target product profiles for diagnostic applications.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define project goals and timelines, while supervising junior radiochemists and driving process improvements.
  • Develop quality control procedures, analytical methods, and specifications for radiopharmaceutical drug products, in coordination with analytical chemists and external partners (CROs, CDMOs).
  • Design and optimize manual and automated radiolabeling processes, with a focus on continuous improvement and process optimization.
  • Conduct root cause investigations for process or synthesis failures, troubleshoot issues, and enhance product development knowledge.
  • Author and review technical documents (SOPs, reports, test methods, regulatory documents), ensuring compliance with radiation safety regulations and industry standards.

The Skills you Bring

  • Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Radiochemistry, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Nuclear Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience in radiopharmaceutical process development, formulation development, production, manufacturing, or tech transfer.
  • Hands-on experience using diagnostic and therapeutic radioisotopes (e.g., Ga-68, F-18, Cu-64 and In-111) is a plus.
  • Expertise in developing automated radiolabeling processes, including for GMP production or radiolabeled drug products.
  • Proficient in analytical methods like HPLC, radio-HPLC, radio-TLC, and quality control for radiopharmaceutical production.
  • Strong project leadership skills with a proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proven experience working in managing cross-functional projects with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Effective communicator with experience collaborating cross-functionally across teams such as QA, regulatory affairs, R&D, analytical, and operations.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements for radiopharmaceutical development and production, along with experience in preparing CMC documentation.

Safety Manager

Your Impact

Alpha-9 is seeking a Safety Manager to join our Vancouver team to support our radiation safety, environmental, health, and biological safety function. The ideal candidate will be a multi-tasker who will provide hands-on safety support, emergency support, and administrative support for the diverse safety program at our facilities. The candidate will be responsible for accurate and timely completion of all safety requirements. This position requires registration as the Alternate RSO in accordance with CNSC regulations, as well as embracing all daily radiation safety operations.

How You’ll Contribute

  • Work closely with the RSO to maintain a safe working environment
  • Support tracking of SOPs, radiation receipt, radiation detector calibrations, radiation inventory, disposal records, and any other necessary documentation.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance related to provincial and national radiation, biological, environmental, and occupational safety hazards across Alpha-9’s facilities.
  • Engage and coordinate service vendors and suppliers of safety equipment.
  • Act as a liaison between dedicated teams of radiation users, RSO, EHS manager and BSO.
  • Assist with receipt and preparation of controlled radioactive, chemical and biological substances.
  • Support all safety programs, such as WSBC requirements, and Joint Health and Safety Committee initiatives.

 

The Skills You Bring

  • B.S. or M.S. in physical or biological sciences, or a related discipline with 3+ of experience handling unsealed radioactive sources.
  • Experience with radiation safety inspections, and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission administrative and operating protocols.
  • Experience preparing and receiving radioactive packages.
  • Solid understanding in maintaining and updating standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills to foster collaboration across teams.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Chemistry, Radiochemistry and Discovery  to drive the discovery and development of targeted radiopharmaceutical therapies. You’ll have the chance to make a real impact on our mission of advancing cancer treatment by contributing to cutting-edge radiopharmaceutical innovations.

Reporting to the Head of Translational Biology, you will play a key role in shaping the biology strategy for our pipeline of radiopharmaceuticals, enabling you to see the direct results of your contributions while growing alongside a passionate, dynamic team. This role is based in our Vancouver office.

How You’ll Contribute

  • Leading and directing the biology efforts for the discovery and development of radiopharmaceuticals targeting solid and hematologic cancers.
  • Identify, design, execute, and oversee preclinical experiments to assess in vitro and in vivo efficacy, demonstrate mechanism of action (MoA), and optimize drug screening platforms.
  • Establish in vitro and in vivo expertise for the Translational Biology group across the pipeline.
  • Collaborate cross functionally with Chemistry, Radiochemistry and Discovery teams to ensure alignment and efficient execution of projects across the pipeline.
  • Ensure efficient workflow within the Translational Biology group to keep timeline and assist in overseeing biology strategy across pipeline projects.
  • Manage and mentor junior scientists, offering strategic guidance and overseeing experimental design, data analysis, data interpretation and the development of cutting-edge assays.
  • Contribute to preclinical data analysis and interpretation, author study reports, and present key findings to senior stakeholders.
  • Participate in the identification and validation of new therapeutic targets and innovate radiopharmaceutical screening methodologies.
  • Engage with CROs and external collaborators to ensure project execution and achievement of milestones.
  • Contribute to IND submissions and regulatory filings, providing data that supports the transition of preclinical programs into clinical development.
  • Shape the growth of the Translational Biology group, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team culture.

The Skills You Bring

  • Ph.D. in Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, or related field, with 6-10 years of industry experience.
  • Expertise in radiopharmaceutical discovery, nuclear medicine, and drug screening technologies.
  • Strong proficiency in in vitro and in vivo experimental design, with a preference for in vivo experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage projects, and mentor junior scientists.
